Atlantis Lodge, Atlantic Beach, NC

I spent a few days last weekend and early this week enjoying the NC Crystal Coast and experimenting with my camera. The back of the hotel lobby at our resort became an unexpected subject that allowed me to take the mundane and make it more interesting. The resulting faux-miniature (tilt shift) shot above was the best of the bunch.

I’m also enjoying my all-natural, sun-kissed blonde highlights… that happens much less often now than it used to growing up on the West Coast. Small pleasures.

Flowers in the mud, baby

flower_in_mudBeauty lies all around us, waiting to be discovered: glimmers of love, hints of grace. I am far guiltier than most of ignoring these rays of light and walking on by, unaware. I have too many important things to do, too many deadlines to meet, and too many obligations that pull me in twenty different directions.

This journey is about stepping out of the routine, opening my eyes, and sharing what I see with you. The camera will act as my lens on the world, snapping bits of reality and transforming them into virtual uplift. Or would that be real uplift? That depends on you, gentle reader.

Perhaps this will benefit someone else; if so, that will just be an ancillary gain. This blog is a note to my fellow travelers, and I dedicate it to the ranks of the tired, the bored, the apathetic, the cynical, and the distracted. Please join me. Let’s see where this road takes us.

Beginnings of Things, Reflection

And so it begins. This is an experiment in discipline and artistic precision. This is about limits. This is about sifting through the mundane and finding something worthy of expression—and then bringing it out into the light of day.

Plush: adj. LUXURIOUS, luxury, deluxe, sumptuous, palatial, lavish, opulent, magnificent, lush, rich, expensive, fancy, grand, upscale, upmarket; posh, ritzy, swanky, classy. Not austere. Anything less would be uncivilized.

Overground: n. ON or ABOVE the ground, out in the open, available, widely broadcast, public, for general consumption. Not esoteric. Skip the subway, baby.
